On this module, you’ll build on the research skills developed in Academic Development 1 by focusing on producing well-structured academic arguments. You’ll learn to:

  • evaluate arguments thoroughly
  • support your ideas with sound evidence
  • reflect your point of view clearly.

Using the Canvas site, you’ll explore how expert writers in your subject area convey their arguments. You’ll then produce your own arguments aligned with the expectations of your academic discipline, helping you become part of your academic community.

Module learning outcomes

  • Create subject-specific academic texts containing well-structured, consistently supported coherent arguments
  • Critically evaluate the key arguments of relevant subject-specific sources to support the communication of your own arguments
  • Identify your own strengths and areas of development through feedback on academic work, and to devise an autonomous approach to learning on your undergraduate course
