On this module, you’ll develop the communication skills needed for academic, business, and professional settings.
The module focuses on enhancing your reading and writing skills for essays, reports, assignments, and general business communication. You’ll also build your listening and speaking skills to help you engage in seminars, tutorials, and lectures on business topics, while preparing you for effective oral communication in professional environments.
Module learning outcomes
- Deal effectively with the reading and writing requirements of business and professional academic courses, read and evaluate relevant secondary sources, and developing well-structured and coherent written arguments at an advanced level of linguistic competence (Common European Framework, Level C1).
- Interpret and analyse texts (spoken or written) typically found in business and professional environments or courses.
- Create business and professional texts containing genre-specific language, at an intermediate level of linguistic competence (CEFR Level B2), and showing awareness of cultural features.
- Present, discuss and summarise business-related information and issues in academic settings and professional speech events, at an intermediate level of linguistic competence (CEFR Level B2).
