This module introduces you to the structure and core elements of criminal liability.

It also touches on aspects of criminal law theory, and requires students to think critically about the types of conduct that should be criminalised and the circumstances in which individuals should be held criminally responsible for their actions.

Module learning outcomes

• Demonstrate detailed knowledge and critical understanding of the principles of criminal liability.
• Devise and effectively communicate a written argument using appropriate legal terminology.
• Select, independently research and apply concepts studied on the module to critically evaluate arguments about the criminal law.
• Explain and critically analyse in depth, in selected areas, the relationship between legal principle, policy, and the application of substantive legal rules to assign criminal responsibility.
