This module focuses on the area of civil law primarily concerned with providing a remedy to persons who have been wrongfully harmed by the conduct of others. Students will be introduced to the general principles of tort law and will explore in more detail a variety of different torts gaining a knowledge of the key elements required to establish these more specific torts.

Module learning outcomes

  • Evidence an understanding of the general principles of tort law.
  • Critically evaluate the different areas of tort law addressed in the module through locating and utilising primary and secondary sources.
  • Demonstrate the ability to critically apply the principles and rules covered in the module to hypothetical scenarios, supporting arguments with appropriate primary sources.
  • Communicate understanding accurately and reliably with appropriately structured and coherent arguments.
