This module invites you to complete a legal research project, a sustained piece of writing based on your independent research, under the guidance of a supervisor. You’ll be supported to:

  • develop your research question
  • present a viable plan for your research
  • write up your submission, completing your project.

You’ll gain the necessary research skills to embark on your legal research project with confidence. You might expect to cover research methodology, advanced word processing, making the most of legal databases/online research and writing skills.

The module will ensure you develop key transferable skills that will serve you well in your future career. These skills include:

  • independent research and learning
  • effective planning and time management
  • self-reflection and evaluation
  • strong written communication.

Module learning outcomes

  • Develop a compelling research question on a viable topic suitable for a one-Semester, Level 5 Legal Research Project
  • Undertake independent research, adopting an appropriate methodology and utilising a range of legal databases/electronic resources
  • Make and support effective arguments, drawing from a range of wide range of sources (as appropriate)
  • Structure, develop and refine a sustained piece of writing, based on independent research
