The aim of this module is to provide an introduction to classical sociological theories and theorists and issues arising from their work.
We'll cover:
- classical sociological theory, from its beginnings in the Enlightenment to the post-World War II era
- key movements of thought, focusing on specific theorists and closely reading excerpts from classic texts
- the ideas and contributions of major classical sociological theorists.

- Demonstrate an understanding of the history of sociology as a theoretical discipline
- Critically evaluate competing theoretical perspectives in writing
