This module examines the role of the performer in the modern recording studio. Working collaboratively with studio recordists, you will learn about performing with different microphone types and recording strategies within the contexts of both analogue and digital studios. You'll explore different historical styles of performance and recording across a range of genres and engage in hands-on exploration of practical approaches to multi-track recording. The module aims to introduce you to studio performance techniques from first take to post-production, emphasising appropriate workflow, and covering basic recording, mixing, and mastering techniques for finalising tracks for distribution. You will perform and record a musical piece as part of this module’s assessment.
