This module introduces you to the Creative Industries—what they are, where they come from, and why they matter. Weekly workshops include a mix of interactive lectures, discussions, and case studies.

You’ll also hear from industry professionals, including experts from our partners at Brighton Festival, who will talk about core roles in the creative industries and how they connect to the topics we cover in the module.

You'll learn about key themes like access, inclusion, sustainability, and the value of culture. You’ll also get an overview of areas you’ll explore further in Year 2 placements, such as technical production, programming, fundraising, operations and marketing.

Module learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of key roles within Cultural Production and the Creative Industries.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of historical, social, cultural and political contexts for the Creative Industries.
  • Produce accessible resources introducing aspects of the Creative Industries, reflecting on the effectiveness of communication.
