Social Enterprises have been important actors to address societal grand challenges such as poverty, climate crisis and inequalities etc. This module aims to equip students with the knowledge to understand the complex environment social enterprises operate in and the challenges associated with managing a social enterprise. This module would also allow students work on a real life economic, social or environmental problem and help them to develop their problem-solving skills, group work and presentation skills.
Module learning outcomes
- Critically evaluate the role and impact of social enterprises in the society.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of how to design, plan and manage social enterprises.
- Recognize complexity of identifying and addressing social problems, critically discuss how social innovation process unfolds and develop problem-solving skills in this context.
- Systemically understand and apply different theoretical perspectives (such as social innovation, social change, institutional theory, social movements, social partnership, stakeholder theory) to develop strategy of social enterprises.
