This module augments and amplifies the overall BSc Data Science course learning outcomes and is designed to improve student employability by facilitating full-year and full-time professional/work placements in the 3rd year of their degree in Data Science. The aim is to provide students with the opportunity to experience the practical aspects of Data Science, to apply what they have learned during the first 2 years of their degree, and to receive further training in the skills associated with their specific work placement.

Module learning outcomes

• Demonstrate experience of working within a commercial environment
• Work within a company's procedural framework
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of company mechanisms for optimising resources, meeting customer expectations and ensuring sustainability
• Work within a framework of company policies, including: confidentiality, Health and Safety, and behavioural standards
• Apply knowledge, gained in an academic environment, to practical problems encountered in a commercial environment
• Communicate the placement learning experience to others
