Waves, Fields and Modern Physics
Module code: F3215
Level 4
15 credits in spring semester
Teaching method: Workshop, Lecture
Assessment modes: Unseen examination, Coursework
This module introduces you to oscillations and wave phenomena across physics, such as:
- interference
- diffraction
- dispersion
- the emergence of geometric optics.
It also explores electromagnetic forces and phenomena, and introduces the concepts of the electric and magnetic fields. You will learn about elements of special relativity and fundamental quantum phenomena.
Module learning outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of wave phenomena and their mathematical description, and apply to simple settings
- Demonstrate knowledge of electrostatics and the electromagnetic spectrum and apply to simple settings
- Demonstrate knowledge of elementary special relativity and apply to simple settings
- Demonstrate knowledge of fundamental quantum phenomena and their interpretation
