Building on condensed state physics, you will study:
- the nature of electronic and optical properties of solids
- the properties of semiconductors and their applications in devices.
Pre-requisite
Pre-requisites:
Level 5: (F3239) Quantum Mechanics 1 [T2]
Level 6: (F3230) Condensed State Physics [T1]
Module learning outcomes
- Ability to describe the electronic and optical properties of solids in terms of their band structure
- Demonstrate an understanding of the behaviour of semiconducting materials and how this is used in devices.
- Ability to describe the role of defects on various electronic and optical properties of solids.
