Introduction to Quantum Physics
Module code: F3241
Level 4
15 credits in spring semester
Teaching method: Lecture, Workshop
Assessment modes: Unseen examination, Coursework
This module introduces you to the foundations of modern physics.
It covers key concepts underpinning the quantum formulation of physics, and includes a discussion of milestones in a historical context.
It also gives an overview of topics in current research.
Pre-requisite
Pre-Requisite: A-level Physics
Co-Requisites: (F3210) Classical Mechanics ; (G5128) Mathematical Methods for Physics
Module learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basic concepts of quantum physics and of the reasons why classical physics has failed to describe the properties of light and matter in microscopic systems.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the applications of quantum physics and quantum technology.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the building blocks of matter and the fundamental forces.
