On this module, you’ll cover topics including:
- electrostatics: Coulomb's law, electric fields, Gauss' law, electrostatic potential, conductors and insulators
- electric circuits: DC and AC circuits, Kirchoff's laws, Boolean algebra and digital circuits
- magnetostatics: Ampere's law, motion of charged particles in magnetic and electric fields, and magnetic forces and magnetic fields
- electromagnetic inductance: Lenz's law (with applications), self-inductance and mutual inductance.

Level 3: (F3207) Foundation Mechanics [T1]
Co-requisites:
Level 3: (F3203) Foundation Mathematics [T1,T2]
Module learning outcomes
- At the end of the course a successful student should have: some ability to apply the laws of electricity & magnetism to specified situations.
- Some ability to investigate electric and magnetic phenomena through laboratory exercises.
- Be able to manipulate the essential equations describing electrical circuits and carry out elementary calculations.
