Physics Foundation Year Laboratory A
Module code: F3303
Level 3 (sub-degree)
15 credits in autumn semester
Teaching method: Lecture, Workshop, Laboratory
Assessment modes: Coursework
A preliminary laboratory course, with basic experiments in classical mechanics and thermodynamics. Integral to the course will also be the development of data-analysis and error propagation skills using spreadsheets, and communicating methods and results in an oral presentation.
Module learning outcomes
- Use simple scientific apparatus to carry out experiments in mechanics and thermodynamics.
- Demonstrate understanding of physical principles underlying classical physics experiments.
- Analyse data, including straightforward line-fitting and basic error propagation techniques.
- Give an oral presentation, with slides, detailing an experiment carried out in the laboratory.
