Chemistry
Core Laboratory Skills for Chemists 2
Module code: F1008
Level 5
15 credits in spring semester
Teaching method: Workshop, Laboratory
Assessment modes: Coursework
On this module you’ll link theory to practice as you explore organic synthesis, spectroscopy and kinetics.
You will have the opportunity to carry out rearrangements reactions and determine the structure of your synthesised compounds based on your experimental analytical data.
You will apply your theoretical knowledge of spectroscopic techniques and reaction rates to real chemical systems in the laboratory. You will be using industry standard equipment, gaining the skills to prepare you for your future chemistry career.
Module learning outcomes
- Use a range of experimental techniques effectively for the production and purification of compounds.
- Determine the structure of synthesised compounds using spectroscopic data.
- Apply knowledge of spectroscopic techniques and kinetic theory to successfully perform experiments.
- Use experimental data to determine spectroscopic and kinetic parameters.
