On this module, you’ll get an introduction to anthropological practice by answering the question: what do anthropologists do?
Starting with a consideration of fieldwork and the core anthropological method of participant observation, you’ll then moving to a consideration of forms of anthropological writing and ethnography. The module will also consider the impacts that engaged anthropology can have on the contemporary world.
Module learning outcomes
- To demonstrate knowledge of core anthropological practices, such as fieldwork and the writing of ethnographies
- To apply an understanding of ethnographic writing practices to the students' own written work
- To identity and describe key areas in which anthropology has engaged with and had impact on issues in the contemporary world
- To demonstrate a basic understanding of the relationship between knowledge, analysis and writing skills
