On this module, you’ll critically explore public relations (PR) as a strategic communication function and its role in contemporary societies.
You’ll evaluate key concepts, debates, and real-world PR campaigns while gaining practical experience in campaign planning.
Key activities include:
- designing and evaluating communications campaigns based on real-life briefs
- analysing case studies
- participating in class debates
- learning from guest speakers with PR industry experience.
You’ll develop communication and report-writing skills, identify solutions to communication challenges and build a critical understanding of PR theory and practice.
Module learning outcomes
- Critically evaluate concepts, arguments and assumptions regarding the role public relations plays in society.
- Frame appropriate questions and identify a range of solutions to problems relating to public relations theory and practice.
- Apply methods and techniques learned in the module, to review, consolidate, extend and apply their knowledge and understanding, and to initiate, plan or assess a public relations project.
- Communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Exercise initiative, personal responsibility and decision-making.
