On this module, you'll analyse the fundamental philosophical values, cultural tenets, and socio-economic systems that have shaped the historical relationship between China and Europe. You'll explore these elements in a historical context to understand their impact on globalised business, with a focus on etiquette, behavioural patterns and international business norms past and present.
The module is divided into two parts:
- the connection between philosophy and business ethics
- lessons learned from key events in history.
You'll critically analyse both philosophy and key events in thie history of China-Europe encounters. This will allow you to understand the dynamics of contemporary global business.
Module learning outcomes
- Effectively demonstrate knowledge of the timeline and the major characteristics of the historical encounter between Europe and East Asia.
- Understand in detail the implications of Chinese interactions with Europe for the cultural, socio-economic, and political transformations of East Asia
- Critically analyse significant case studies concerning East Asia’s relations with Europe and the role of Chinese and Western value systems and their effect on contemporary business, management and leadership practices.
- Effectively develop skills of devising and defending arguments with evidence, and present them in written form
