This module introduces you to a number of significant critical frameworks which shape our understanding of culture, politics and society. It is designed to encourage you to think about – and apply theoretical positions to – the related fields of drama, theatre and performance. Key skills you’ll gain include:
- essay writing
- collaborative presentation skills
- expanded knowledge of how to theorise performance.

- Locate critical theories in their historical and cultural contexts
- Analyse and evaluate the applicability of different critical theories to performance
- Engage in critical dialogue with theorists' ideas
- Apply critical theory to more specific theories of drama/theatre/performance
