This module explores the lived experience of class in the late 20th and 21st century.
You'll study:
- different forms of creative and critical writing (novels, poems, memoirs), as well as social and political texts
- visual culture, film, architecture, and music
- class
- intersections between class
- race
- gender
- sexuality
- writing in Britain.
Module learning outcomes
- Respond in informed fashion to discussions and debates about class in creative and/ or critical writing.
- Analyse to a high level how class is represented in texts/ other media in critical writing, or respond to representations of class in creative writing.
- Show deep understanding in creative and/ or critical writing of the specific challenges of writing about class.
- Show a developed ability to think critically and historically about the course readings.
- Identify a topic for research within the area defined by the module, and undertake advanced research on that topic.
