Three Filmmaking students from the School of Media, Arts and Humanities are raising money to travel to Iceland to film their documentary project: BELOW ZERO.
Olivia Lajos, Ethan Peck, and Katherine Wong are final year Filmmaking students at Sussex. Together, the group are working on producing their final year project: a documentary based on the heroes of ICE-SAR, the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue.
ICE-SAR is a national, non-profit association of rescue units and accident prevention divisions operating throughout Iceland. Their life-saving search and rescue teams are all volunteer-run, with over 4,500 volunteers on call every single day of the year.
In their documentary, Olivia, Ethan, and Katherine are hoping to explore the history of ICE-SAR, delving into its successes, challenges, and the volunteers at its heart. The group are passionate about capturing both the heroism and sacrifices involved in ICE-SAR’s work, translating this into a moving documentary that they hope to submit to future film festivals.
Producing a documentary of this kind involves various costs, which is why the group are asking for contributions to help cover some of their travel, food, and accommodation expenses. So far, the group have raised £570 toward their £2,514 target – but will need some extra support to help them succeed!
