Threads of Change: Women Shaping Fashion’s New Dawn
Thursday 10 April 19:00 until 21:00
University of Sussex Campus : Woodland 3, Students Centre
Speaker: Elizabeth Parry

Does fashion have to be shaped by designers alone? How are women from different sectors using their roles to bring about change? Traditionally change was in the hands of designers alone but times are changing fast.
Roles such as styling, production, creative direction, marketing and PR all play their part in fashion today. Some may say that sustainability and diversity have never held such a powerful influence and the women working behind the scenes have been busy shaping a new dawn.
Taking inspiration from the popular panel discussions held in Graduate Fashion week. This event brings together a panel of women who work in a range of roles in fashion today. I will be leading a discussion about innovative movements in the industry coming from a wide spectrum of experience.
Confirmed guests so far are Cat O’Brien, a Brighton designer who uses dead stock fabrics in all her work; Erica Travis, a marketing and community events manager at Dazed and a co-founder of Madruga festival. The third guest is to be confirmed.
Following the discussion will be a showcase of work by exciting local designers and we will finish off with a Q & A session. This will give all attendees the chance to interact with the guests. So, come armed with questions. What kind of change do you see happening? What kind of change would you like to see? And how should or could this be brought about? It promises to be a lively and provoking evening. You are warmly invited and encouraged to stay on after the Q & A for networking and general chat.
I am a first class honours student from UCA currently studying for a masters in the cultural and creative industry who is passionate about the power of fashion. I am also a single mother, working hard and determined that women too should have a voice in this traditionally male dominated environment.
