Biography

Born Pinner, Middlesex, 1946. Educated at Pinner Grammar School, Corpus Christi College, Oxford (BA Modern Languages (Spanish) 1969), Queen's College Oxford (DPhil 1975), and the University of Barcelona (1971-73). Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Linguistics, University of Liverpool, 1973-89. Reader in Linguistics, University of Sussex, 1989-2005, Professor of Linguistics 2006-7, Emeritus Professor of Linguistics 2007-.

Role

Till retiring in October 2007 he taught undergraduate courses in the BA Linguistics and BA English Language programmes and postgraduate courses in the MA Applied Linguistics programme. He was main supervisor of two research students until 2011.
