The School of Engineering and Informatics is proud to announce that Claire Potter, Senior Lecturer and Course Convenor of the BSc/BA Product Design programme, has been appointed as a Design Council Expert.
The Design Council is the UK's national strategic advisor for design, and aims to tackle the issue of the climate crisis through design.
As Design Council Expert, Potter is part of a community of over 220 pioneering designers dedicated to advancing a planet-positive and regenerative future through sustainable design practices. Over the next three years, she will collaborate with her fellow experts on high-impact projects, help shape policy, and advocate for driving the transition to net zero emissions.
Potter's expertise in circular economy and regenerative design led her to achieving this new role. At Sussex, Potter introduced the module 'The Role of Design in the Circular Economy' in 2013, and she ensures that aspects of circularity serve as a golden thread woven through all BSc and BA Product Design pathways.
In this new role, Potter will represent the UK's world-leading design industry on the global stage, including at the 2025 World Design Congress in London. Her work will demonstrate design's power to catalyse meaningful change and build a better, more sustainable future.
"It is a real honour to be selected as one of the new Design Council Experts," Potter commented. "Circularity, regeneration and flourishing through design are core principles here at Sussex, and the next three years promise to be very exciting."
The School extends our warmest congratulations to Claire on this remarkable achievement. We eagerly anticipate her continued pioneering contributions and impact through this vital initiative driving sustainable transformation in the design sector.
