Emeritus Professor named IET Honorary Fellow in organisation's 150th birthday celebrations

An emeritus professor at the University of Sussex has received a prestigious honour in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the engineering and technology industry.
Professor Bernard Weiss has been honoured with an Honorary Fellowship from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in recognition of his outstanding service as a volunteer to the organisation.
He joins 15 other world-leading engineers and technologists who are being recognised for their outstanding contribution to the engineering and technology industry in this the 150th anniversary of the IET.
Prof Weiss moved to the University of Sussex in 2009 as Head of School of Engineering and Design and also became Acting Head of the School of Informatics. After restructuring the two Schools, he formed the School of Engineering and Informatics from the merger of the two restructured Schools in August 2011.
He retired in September 2012 and is now an Emeritus Professor.
His time at Sussex was the culmination of a distinguished career spanning more than 40 years which saw him study and then teach at the universities of Newcastle and Surrey.
Prof Weiss is also a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE).
He joins pioneering female engineers and technologists such as Kimberly Bryant (Founder of Black Girls CODE), Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon (Co-founder and CEO of Stemettes) and June Angelides (Founder of Mums in Technology) i this year’s line-up of honorary fellows.
Prof Weiss said: “I am delighted and proud to be awarded an IET Honorary Fellowship and join the list of many very eminent engineers. This is very special as it is the 150th anniversary of the Institution. I have been a volunteer for more than 30 years and have enjoyed being involved in scholarships, medals, degree accreditation and publications and have met many exceptional people who have extended my knowledge of engineering.”

As distinguished engineers and technologists, they have each excelled in their professions and have made a vast contribution as pioneers of important areas in the engineering and technology industries.
