For International Women’s Day, SSRP is celebrating women researchers.
International Women's Day (IWD) honours women’s achievements, raises awareness on the struggles women face and advocates for the progression of women’s equality and rights.
The theme of IWD 2025 is ‘Accelerate Action’ which emphasises the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality.
'Accelerate Action' aims to acknowledge strategies, resources, and activities that positively impacts, supports and elevates gender equality.
This increased momentum and urgency better addresses the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.
Research at SSRP investigates the intersection of human health and environmental health around the world. Numerous projects under our 'Planetary Health' research explore the interconnection between human rights, social justice, women’s empowerment, and sustainability, highlighting opportunities towards gender equality.
To mark IWD 2025, SSRP is spotlighting Dr Chi Eziefula, Senior Lecturer in Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
Much of Dr Ezeifula’s work is driven by the effort to address the lack of knowledge around the female body and the significant human rights issues that arise from this gap.
As Principal Investigator of two (related) SSRP funded projects, Luna Connection and Co-created citizen science to advance sustainable menstrual health among adolescents, Dr Chi Eziefula explores the social, legal and environmental implications of menstrual health on adolescents in Uganda, Kenya, Sudan and the United Kingdom.
These projects have brought together an international network of researchers and stakeholders to discuss accelerating action towards gender equality and addressing global menstrual health.
You can find out more about Dr Eziefula's vital work in a SSRP Spotlight interview coming very soon.
