Children are often left out of the discussion around climate change and sustainability.
But a joint workshop between the Sussex Sustainability Research Programme (SSRP) and Centre for Innovation and Research in Childhood and Youth (CIRCY) - with the support of the Widening Participation team - seeks to understand the sustainability issues that matter to younger people.
The event, titled 'Climate Change and the Environment: Exploring through Childhood, Youth and Education, Arts and Gaming', brings together local young people (including schoolchildren) and Sussex researchers, fostering collaboration on complex sustainability problems.
Four SSRP researchers will give short presentations:
Dr Emanuela Orlando: Eco-anxiety and the relationship between climate change and human and children rights
Dr Chi Eziefula: Citizen science for sustainable menstrual health
Kathleen Bailey: Nurturing nature with(in) children - nature in education
Dr Jo Walton: Sustainable futures and not-so-serious play
The workshop takes place on Wednesday 22 February from 11.30am to 12.30am, with the room TBD. All sussex staff and students are very welcome - please register here.
