DIY Signal Processing: Distortion
Wednesday 2 April 13:00 until 16:00
University of Sussex Campus : Sussex Digital Humanities Lab (opposite SB211) Silverstone Building
Speaker: Workshop Leaders: Adam Staff & Alex Peverett
Part of the series: SHL Digital Creative & Critical Making Workshops in association with Emute

In this workshop we will be building a simple distortion circuit to explore ideas around signal processing. This hands-on workshop will develop your DIY soldering skills, explore the differing musical character of components and how they transform a signal.
Since their invention, engineers and artists have been creatively subverting and pushing the limitations of electronic components. We will engage with this tradition by interrogating saturation, overdrive, fuzz, distortion, clipping and non-linear transfer functions for sonic purposes.
