Reanimating data: Working with archives
Monday 17 March 14:00 until 16:00
University of Sussex Campus : Sussex Humanities Lab (opposite SB211) Silverstone Building
Part of the series: SHL Digital Seminar series
In this workshop I will draw on my time working with the Sussex Digital Humanities Lab to describe and demonstrate the method of Reanimating Data. My experience of working collaboratively in SHL Digital is that it allowed me to explore how digital methods could be used creatively to bring archives back to life, and to use archives as a starting point for new enquiries. I will showcase the theory, methods and ethics of reanimating, illustrating the talk with examples of innovative practice supported by SHL Digital including a sound installation exploring young men talking about love and sex in 1990s and a youth theatre collaboration with young women working with the testimonies of a previous generation. The session will include a hands-on opportunity to ‘do’ reanimation using fragments of interviews and visual archived materials.
