Hildegard Westerkamp and the Path of Acoustic Ecology
Wednesday 29 January 18:00 until 19:30
Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts
Speaker: Hildegard Westerkamp
“How can we convince other ecologists that the pollution of our soundscape is as much of an environmental issue as the pollution of water and air-that indeed? it is the "voice" which makes the world's environmental problems audible to all those who care to listen” - Hildegard Westerkamp - 2002
Hildegard Westerkamp and her colleagues were early proponents of the idea that sound is a decisive dimension of the world, an idea that underpins contemporary thinking across social, political, artistic and scientific practices of environmental respect and concern. Join in an informal Q&A with Hildegard herself, on live link from Canada, in conversation with musician and ecoacoustian Dr Alice Eldridge and conservation biologist Dr Mika Peck to find out more about Hildegard’s life, works and ideas and their resonance with contemporary research and practice across the art and science of soundscape.
All tickets free - limited capacity
