Understanding and supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children, adolescents, and young adults
One major strand of work in the CRESS lab is focused on collaborations that illuminate different aspects of mental health and wellbeing among children and adoelscents, ranging from whole-school approaches designed to support the wellbeing of the entire school community, through to targeted work aimed at meeting the needs of young people with complex mental health difficulties.
Examples of past research projects in this area can be found among these webpages. For more information on ongoing work, see the Starting Well theme of the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration for Kent, Surrey, and Sussex, led by Professor David Fowler.
A related project is our work on the mental health of students making transitions to and during higher education. Funded by the Office for Students, the SITUATE (Students In Transitation at University: Aiming to Enhance Mental and Social Health and Wellbeing) Project involves systematic review of the existing literature, new surveys and focus groups with students concerning their mental health profiles and experiences, and work with the Mental Health Foundation to train student wellbeing ambassadors.
