Research
19 th and 20 th century European history, historiography, philosophy of history. I am particulary interested in Russian/Soviet history and the way in which this history has been conceptualised, for example, in the theories of Totalitarianism that emerged from the 30s onwards.
Current projects include research on ideas of repetition, anachronism and inversion in Hegel and Marx's historical writings; the impact of the Soviet show trials on philosophy and literature in Britain and France in the 1940s; a book project 'Phenomenology of Revolution' exploring the relationship between revolution and philosophies of history in a wide range of thinkers.
