Mandatory training for managers

The University uses e-Learning platform, LearnUpon, to deliver essential training to staff. You should be able to login using your Sussex username (eg. ab123@sussex) and password. 

Unconscious Bias

This training is mandatory for Grades 7 and above. This short course aims to increase awareness of unconscious bias and how it impacts people with protected characteristics. Complete the Unconscious Bias training on Learnupon.

Recruitment and Selection

We must ensure that we recruit equitably and within the law. All staff involved in recruitment are required to complete this course within one month of employment start date, or upon taking on recruitment responsibilities. Complete the Recruitment and Selection training on Learnupon.

Managing teams

Learn how to set goals, delegate, manage performance, and develop both your team and the individuals on it. Complete the Managing Teams training on LearnUpon.

Inclusive leadership

This course gives insights from pioneers in the field of inclusive leadership, combined with original drama demonstrating inclusive leadership in action and tools for developing inclusive leadership skills at all levels of your organisation. Complete the Inclusive Leadership training on LearnUpon. 

Building trust

Designed with a particular focus on new leaders but suitable for all staff, this course looks at how trust develops, its importance in working relationships and what we can do to improve our own ability to build and maintain it. Complete the Building Trust training on LearnUpon. 

Influencing people

This course looks at why we might need to influence others in the workplace, sets out a range of different influencing behaviours and strategies and shows how we can improve our own ability to influence those around us. Complete the Influencing People training on LearnUpon. 

Managing remote workers

This course looks at the benefits and challenges of remote working and provides advice for leaders and managers on how to ensure that their home workers remain connected, engaged and productive. Complete the Managing Remote Workers training on LearnUpon.

Leadership foundations: Styles and models

This course offers a frame of reference for what leadership is, how it is practiced, and the most prevalent styles and approaches, to help you become the leader you want to be. Professor Alexander Lyon covers styles of authority, from autocratic to laissez-faire; approaches to action and communication; and models of responsibility, including servant leadership. Become a trauma-informed leader

So much of your success as a leader depends on your ability to learn from personal trials, errors, and resolved or unresolved trauma. Your resilience in the wake of a challenge influences your leadership style and how you respond to stress and pain points in the workplace. Managing misconduct in the workplace
