Disclosure of Personal Data Relating to Students
This guidance provides clarification as to when a student's personal data can or cannot be disclosed; what should be considered in relation to disclosure; and information about when to refer the request to another colleague or team.
As part of our day to day role, many of us handle the personal data of students. At times, sharing this data will be required and this guidance should assist you in understanding when sharing is appropriate and what to do if you have any concerns. The guidance also gives an overview of consent, which will sometimes be relevant when deciding if you should share a student’s personal data.
In the majority of cases you will likely recognise a request for student personal data and understand what steps to take, but this guidance should help you if you have any concerns or queries.
