Outdoor Cinema on Sussex University Campus
On Monday 31st October, during an especially drizzly Halloween evening, Sussex students and staff gathered in Library Square to watch the infamous clown Pennywise as he terrorised the innocent children of Derry. The 2017 adaptation of Stephen King’s cult classic, IT was an undeniable crowd pleaser.
Despite the rain, people turned up in good spirits with raincoats, umbrellas and the desire to be scared by a paranormal demon clown (each to their own). Many were already dressed in their spooktacular Halloween costumes for the evening and the energy that filled the square was infectious.
Korean Street Food
Our talented chef curated the ultimate cinema menu to enjoy alongside the horror. Rather than stick to your standard hot dog affair, the humble Kitchen van chose to level-up it’s offering with an on-trend menu of Korean style corn dogs. Smoked frankfurter or Quorn hot dogs and stringy mozzarella cheese were layered up on a stick, covered in a think batter, coated in cornflakes or dried ramen noodles, deep fried to perfection and then topped with sriracha, kewpie mayo and sesame seeds. Hungry students began to form a queue before the van opened its hatch and the cheesy K-dogs sold out before the film ended. We've had so much praise for our South Korean inspired street food on a stick that we’re sure you’ll be seeing them pop-up on campus again in the future.
Happy Halloween!
With about 70 chairs filled and many more choosing to stand around the outskirts to watch the film, we were impressed with everyone’s resilience to the elements. What’s a little bit of wind and rain when you live in England, huh? After a few jump scares, laughs and the odd scream, the crowd let out a joyous cheer and applause as the film came to an end.
