In this public talk, Professor Wendy Garnham presents her career and scholarship practice focusing on students’ transition to university and the role that active learning plays in this.
“The transition to studying in Higher Education can be one of the most exciting and rewarding life events for an individual and yet it is often underestimated in terms of the impact it has on them. Not just in academic terms, but in social and emotional spheres, the transition can present many challenges, particularly for those who may have underperformed in previous educational settings.”
Working primarily with Foundation Year students, Wendy has been able to identify and tackle issues that often present barriers to students who are entering Higher Education for the first time.
“I present some of the ways in which these issues have been successfully tackled and explored including the promotion of active learning, the creation of a multiple award-winning model of support and the development of international networks to share good practice.”
