Policies
The University of Sussex recognises that a systematic and rigorous approach to research data management is fundamental to good research practice, and has established this Research Data Management Policy to set out and guide the approach of the institution and all researchers working within or for it.
The Policy recognises that:
- research data acquired using public funding should be treated as a public good;
- all research should be made openly available to other researchers wherever appropriate, irrespective of its funding;
- the trend across many disciplines to work with increasingly large datasets has increased the infrastructural challenges involved in managing data effectively;
- appropriate confidentiality of certain data, and appropriate security of all data, are important ethical and legal obligations.
All those engaged in research involving the use of data should observe the Policy, and those involved in research leadership and management should particularly note their responsibilities as set out in it.
