Santander Travel Grants
Santander Travel Grants support doctoral supervisors to undertake visits to institutions within the Santander Network of 1,208 universities and research institutes in Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, Chile, China, Colombia, Germany, Ghana, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, Spain, USA, UK, UAE and Uruguay.
The supervisor must be accompanied by a current Sussex postgraduate researcher (PGR).
Visits should have a clear purpose (e.g. co-authorship/co-production of research outputs, or submission of a grant proposal). The focus of the scheme is to encourage long-term collaboration between institutions. Awards are for a maximum of £2,000 (£1,000 per person).
The following criteria apply:
- Applications must be from a supervisor looking to develop a research relationship, endorsed by their school, for themselves and the PGR accompanying them
- Grants must not take place before a student’s research outline has been approved
- The grant can only be used to fund visits to institutions within the Santander Network
- Santander Travel Grant applications will be considered by the Sussex Researcher School (SRS). In making the decision, the following criteria will be used:
- Quality of application – in particular, specific research outputs or grant applications that will be submitted
- Potential for the relationship to develop beyond the grant
- Priority will be given to iniatives with our International Strategic Partners
Successful applicants will be required to:
- Submit a 2-page report on the visit
- Organise flights and accommodation, claiming back relevant expenditure via the University expenses processes. In the event that this poses difficulties, please get in touch with us at researcher-school@sussex.ac.uk to discuss options.
- Claim any remaining reasonable expenses in accordance with the University’s financial regulations.
