The Innovate Project is a 4-year pan-UK research project, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.
The project explores innovation in social care methods and systems to address extra-familial risks and harm experienced by young people, such as child exploitation and serious youth violence. Professor Michelle Lefevre leads the project, with a team at the University of Sussex working in collaboration with the Innovation Unit, Research in Practice, and Durham University.
The project explores the following strands of work:
- Developing understandings of how innovation is defined and utilised in social care
- Exploring effective approaches to addressing extra-familial risk and harms and safeguarding in adolescence
- Examining three promising new frameworks for innovation:
- Methodological Innovation
By working with key stakeholders to develop our findings into policy recommendations, practice guidance and resources, we aim to inform innovation practice, improve the design and delivery of social care, and enhance service experiences and outcomes for vulnerable young people and their families.
