Climate of the Indian Ocean World: Past and Present
Centre for World Environmental History, University of Sussex, Brighton, UK
26–27 May 2021
The 1st Summer School Workshop of the Appraising Risk Partnership focused on the climate of the Indian Ocean World (IOW) region. Participants were introduced to the main characteristics and drivers of the climate system operating across the region and, in an interactive practical session, were invited to explore the use of freely-available web-based climate analysis tools. The recognition and use of historical environmental archives were also reviewed, with specific emphasis on how to critically appraise uncertainty in these records. We were delighted to have the involvement of the British Library in London, the University of Hull and the UK Meteorological Office over the two days of the workshop.
