Biography
Before studying for my MA Social Development at Sussex in 2014/15 I was in Sierra Leone working with a local human rights NGO during the Ebola outbreak and so my Master's research was focused on Ebola. I returned to Sierra Leone to conduct medical anthropological research into the rumours that were spreading to try and understand why Sierra Leoneans resisted Ebola health responses and therefore improve possible future health responses to outbreaks of infectious disease in Sierra Leone.
Whilst working with Development Reimagined, a Kenyan-owned, Beijing-based international development consultancy that specialises in Africa-China relations, I have been researching Chinese health responses to the 2014/15 Ebola outbreak in West Africa to improve health responses to COVID19 and more generally the outbreak in Africa and the impact of this on Africa-China relations. I have also been looking at the impact of Chinese health development initiatives in Africa.
