As global markets and governments around the world continue to react to the US’ newly imposed tariffs, the University of Sussex Business School’s trade experts have been providing international media outlets with crucial insights on their implications.
The “US is now a rogue nation when it comes to trade”, was the stark warning for developing countries from Professor Michael Gasiorek, Director of the Centre for Inclusive Trade Policy (CITP) and Co-Director of the UK Trade Policy Observatory. For the UK, however, the CITP’s recent research predicted only a modest economic loss, or even a potential small gain if a trade deal happens with the US. In an interview with The Financial Times, however, the CITP and UKTPO’s Dr Nicolo Tamberi highlighted the uncertainty that the tariffs have created for international trade, noting that the “effects... can be as bad as tariffs.”
Amidst global economic uncertainty and shifts, we remain an internationally recognised voice for rigorous and responsive analysis of trade policy.
