Business School faculty with visitors from Sukkar IBA University, Pakistan
From 24 September to 4 October 2023, the Business School welcomed representatives from Sukkar IBA University in Pakistan to the University of Sussex. They met Jeremy Kent Hall, Professor of Innovation Studies, and Head of the Science Policy Research Unit, (SPRU) Chirantan Chatterjee, Professor of Economics of Innovation and Global Health, Paul Nightingale, Professor of Strategy, and other faculty. The visit included both Pakistani and Business School PhD students.
The visit aimed to provide all participants with a broader perspective on research and academic publications, whilst developing the intercultural skills required for the ever-growing globalised job market.
As well as enhancing research collaborations between Sukkur IBA University; the Business School and the wider University of Sussex, our focus is to build business and industry partnerships in line with the Pakistani and United Kingdom industrial strategies, promoting a more sustainable and green economy.
The six-day visit featured a range of lectures and workshops on the state of higher education and collaborative research, ‘AI and the New World of Doctoral Research’. Discussions have also included grant and funding possibilities between the UK and Pakistan on shared areas of mutual interest such as sustainability, innovation, global health, and development.
The group travelled to London for a networking session, a visit to the Science Museum, and a guest lecture from Dr Brendan Donegan, Research and Science Partnerships Advisor from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
Business School faculty also delivered PhD workshops and feedback sessions for doctoral dissertations, and students had an opportunity to present what they have learned from these.
Later in the year, our SPRU faculty and PhD students will have the opportunity to visit Pakistan for a similar exchange.
