From Friday 13 to Friday 20 September we will be welcoming thousands of new and returning students to Sussex for Welcome Week.
It’s an exciting and daunting time for students, and teams across the University have been working together to develop a fantastic programme of events and activities to make sure students feel at home at Sussex from the minute they arrive.
What students can expect during Welcome Week
Over the next week or so, students will arrive on campus, register and get set up to begin their studies. They can also get involved with the many events and activities happening including School academic inductions and, for the first time, our Welcome Celebration Day on Friday 20 September for all students – find out more below.
Throughout the week, the Student Centre will be hosting student support stalls in the atrium and there will also be games, quizzes, free merchandise and the chance to meet other new students. The Wellbeing tent on Fulton Lawns, will offer students the chance to take part in board games, sports and crafts, or unwind in our dedicated relaxation space.
Take a look at the Welcome Week poster [PDF 757kb] which you can spot around campus or visit the Welcome Week page to find out more about what’s going on.
New and returning students can also find useful information about what they may need to know about life at Sussex on our new students page.
Friday 20 September is Welcome Celebration Day
Our first ever Welcome Celebration Day will be a moment for all new students to look ahead to the start of their new life at Sussex.
Vice-Chancellor Sasha Roseneil will host a special Welcome Celebration event to welcome new students in each of our Faculties. Afterwards, students will also be able to connect with each other and meet senior representatives from the University, whilst enjoying delicious drinks and cupcakes. During the day, students can also capture memories in the photobooth, get competitive with giant games or watch live music and circus performers.
Staff at the heart of Welcome Week
Many teams have been working hard over the past months to plan our Welcome Week and Registration activities carefully so that students feel that sense of belonging and have an enjoyable experience that they will remember.
For the first time this year, staff more widely across the University have also been invited to be part of this important event in our University calendar. We have had a great response and dozens of volunteers will be helping give students the best possible welcome to Sussex by providing information, guidance and a friendly face when they arrive.
Thank you to everyone who is contributing to this fantastic welcome for students.
During Welcome Week, we encourage staff to be proactive by wearing an ‘Ask Me’ badge so students know they can approach and ask a question if needed. More information about Ask Me badges will be available shortly.
