JRA Insights
This page contains an archive of various articles and blogposts, which provide an insight into the JRA scheme as well as celebrating the research and achievements of some of our former JRAs.
An insight into the JRA scheme
The Independent Working guide provides advice on completing a research project, as many JRAs find this style of working to be a challenge. There are also a few posts on the Sussex Linguists blog written by former JRAs Joe Thompson-Smith (2021), Eddie Brown (2018) and Sarah Fitgerald (2015), which help provide an insight into the scheme from the JRA's perpective. You can also read Karolina Szpyrko's account on acting as a PGR mentor to a JRA in 2021, in a Research Hive blogpost.
Celebrating former JRAs
All JRA posters are displayed at the annual JRA Poster Exhibition, which celebrates the research projects completed across the scheme. To find out more about this event then please read the article on our 2022 Poster Exhibition.
We are also proud to see some JRAs publish their work, such as:
- Valerie Kporye's (2022) Royal Historical Society blogpost on her research project about 'Black at Sussex'.
- Jasper Winder's (2023) publication in Nature as joint first author on a Hometronics paper due to his research contribution.
- Sunny Colclough's (2024) post on her supervisor Alan Lester's blog, regarding their research on Capability Brown.
