Background
Pasindu Lugoda is a Research fellow in the flexible electronics group at the University of Sussex.
Pasindu did his PhD at the Advanced Textiles Research Group in Nottingham Trent University where he also worked as a casual researcher. For his PhD he developed and tested electronic yarns with embedded temperature sensors. These electronic yarns have been used to create prototype garments. The Smart socks for early detection of diabetic ulcers that was developed as part of his PhD work, gathered a lot of interest in the industry as well as in the media.
Pasindu has also done two back to back research internships at the Microsoft Corporation (Redmond, USA). He has also worked as a Design Engineer for Nike at MAS holdings Linea Intimo. At MAS holdings he developed Nike concepts into production viable garments. During his stay at MAS he worked with Santoni circular knitting machines.
Pasindu did his BEng in Electronic and Communication Engineering at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.
The main goal of his research at the University of Sussex is to develop strain and pressure sensors on a textile substrate to produce a shape sensing textile for orthotics.
