Swanborough
Timescale: Completed autumn 2007
Project value: £12 million
Project manager: Martin Green / External project manager
Three new residential buildings were constructed on Refectory Road opposite Bramber House.
This development was part of the first phase of expansion and renewal of our residential facilities and enables us to meet the demand for high-quality student accommodation.
The buildings contain a variety of five-, six- and seven-bed flats, providing a total of 250 beds. Each room has en-suite facilities with a shared kitchen and social space per flat.
The buildings were designed in sympathy with the original Sir Basil Spence architecture, including landscaped courtyards between each block. The same palette of materials - local brick, concrete, glass, copper and white paint - were reinterpreted for the new buildings. The design was also derived from a desire to minimise the use of energy.
