Biography
Ciara successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled, "Women's Reproductive Rights: Repairing Gender-Based Harm in the Inter-American System of Human Rights," in November 2016. Her research examines the potential for international human rights courts to effectively take account of, and repair harm, specific to women.
As of February 2016, Ciara is an Adjunct Lecturer in Carthage College's Women's and Gender Studies Department. In this role she develops curriculum for the introductory and theoretical women's and gender studies courses.
Ciara has held visiting scholar positions at the Centre for International Governance and Justice (Australian National University), the University of Wisconsin Madison Law School and the International Institute for the Sociology of Law in Oñati, Spain. Her research has been published in edited collections and can be found in Health and Human Rights and the Inter-American and European Human Rights Journal. She recently collaborated with the Colombian based NGO, Dejusticia, to submit an amicus brief in the IV v. Bolivia case before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
