New Technology for Heterocyclic Chemistry

Our research interests span the breadth of heterocyclic chemistry, developing new methods using emerging technologies for the synthesis of heteroaromatic compounds of biological interest in the field of drugs and natural products, including:

  • Mechanochemistry for the synthesis of heterocycles
  • Development of new flow reactor technology for heterocyclic synthesis
  • Chemical intervention in accelerated ageing in Werner syndrome using heterocyclic inhibitors
  • Microwave-assisted organic and peptide synthesis
  • Synthesis and biological properties of heteroaromatic drugs and clinical candidates
  • Heteroaromatic chemistry of pyridines, pyrimidines, oxazoles, thiazoles, indoles and pyrazoles
  • Synthesis of heterocyclic natural products, including cyclic peptides and the thiopeptide antibiotics
  • Synthesis of deuterium-labelled biomarkers
